2016 Delegation to Colombia to Support a Just and Inclusive Peace Process
Despite a historic peace accord, progressive social movements in Colombia advocate for a more integral understanding of peace: sustainable peace with justice, the deconstruction of systems of inequality, impunity, and injustice. It is time to respond to Colombian peoples’ request for international support and verification, through a large Witness for Peace delegation to Colombia in September. We will focus on:
• Understanding the peace process, its strengths and weaknesses, as well as getting some perspective on the conflict from Colombian peace advocates
• Connecting with communities that have been most impacted by the armed conflict (and who will be a key element of building peace on the ground) including Afro-Colombian populations, indigenous communities, displaced campesinos, and women.
• The impact of the US Free Trade Agreement and the Labor Action Plan
